About

“…Art is noticing and capturing the day…”

I create sculpture using recycled, reclaimed and repurposed every day industrial and electronic materials. I am inspired by the industrial landscape of my city Melbourne (Australia). I find the scale, textures and the mystery of industrial landscapes a major source of inspiration.  They are part of the identity of our cities but often poorly known by its inhabitants. I am advocate for recycling and I bring this passion into my art by using discarded and recycled materials.

The sculptures I create explore themes of identity and our sense of place in an age where everything “real” is digital. I use all sorts of materials such as bolts, cables, old circuit boards, coat hangers, car parts, etc to build three dimensional profiles of the human face and more abstract pieces. I’m the guy who stops in the street to pick up a bolt that has fallen off a passing truck!  My art aims to challenge the viewer to think about the constructed nature of identities and how identity is constantly on the move, absorbing and recycling ideas, a bit like how cities change over the time.

This tension between the past and future are where identities are born and renewed, where we are accelerating to digital everything but are still not fully comfortable about what that means, it is this edge of change that inspires my work.

I undertake private commissions and actively seek to exhibit my work through the gallery system. My current studio residency is at River Studios (Creative Spaces)
